Mac OS X: Adding the Wireless Printer


Note: To add the “Wireless Printer” to your printer list you must already be logged on to the CSUSB Wireless Network.


Requirements: 1. Your MyCoyote username and password (to log onto the CSUSB wireless network)
2. A laptop running Windows XP, Vista, or Mac OS X, and with wireless capability* (These instructions have been written specifically for Mac OS X v 10.4 and 10.5. May work with other Operating Systems but has not been tested by Academic Computing and Media)

1. Locate and open “Print and Fax” by clicking on the “Macintosh HD” icon (located on the Desktop, then click Applications > System Preferences > Print and Fax.

2. Select the plus sign to add a new printer

3. Select the “IP Printer" (10.4) or “IP” (10.5) icon.

4. In the window that opens, you will tell the computer which printer(s) you want to “add”. Select or type in the following:

Protocol: LPD
Address: acm1109print1.csusb.edu
Queue:

  • 1109print1 (black/white)
  • 1109color (color)

Name: acm1109print1.csusb.edu
Location: (this is optional- put in whatever you want, or leave it blank)
Print Using: Generic PostScript Driver

5. Select “Add” to add this to the list of printers you can potentially print to.

6. Send a test print to this printer. If you do not receive an error message, you have successfully setup your laptop for “wireless printing”! If do you receive an error message, see an on-duty Lab Technician for assistance.

 

To identify your print jobs, you must know your “Computer Name” or “IP Address”
Labs are not responsible for documents printed out by mistake.

 

How do I find my Computer Name?

  1. Open System Preferences (Apple Menu Icon > System Preferences)
  2. Select the Sharing icon

Your Computer Name is displayed next to where it says “Computer Name”

How do I find my IP Address?

  1. Go to www.whatismyip.com
    Your IP address will appear at the top of the page as a series of numbers. (Ex. 000.000.000.00).
