ACM Service Area Name: Self Instructional Computer Labs

Job Position Name: Self Instructional Lab Consultant

Wage Ranges: Starting at $7.50  per hour

ACM Service Area Overview:

The computer labs offer Windows and Macintosh computer workstations, laser and color printing, and free access to the Internet and campus e-mail services.  The computer labs also include scanners, Macintosh editing stations for video and multimedia projects, and laptop connections for access to printing services. The labs also offer access to assistive workstations for students with disabilities.

Qualifications:

Student Technicians are hired based on desirable qualifications such as:

  • Ability to effectively communicate with students and faculty users
  • Effective problem solving skills
  • Ability to formulate and recommend solutions for user problems
  • Maturity, resourcefulness, motivation and responsibility
  • Knowledge and experience in some of the application software packages supported by Academic Computing and Media
  • Familiarity with the Internet and the student e-mail system at CSUSB;
  • Familiarity with the microcomputer systems at CSUSB
  • Have an understanding of the policies of STP, its purpose, and goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create and renew user accounts
  • Interpret system commands and messages for faculty users
  • Explain the operation and functioning of various supported software application packages on all supported systems
  • Analyze system problems for lab users and suggest appropriate solutions
  • Assist lab users in locating proper documentation for supported computer systems and software application packages
  • Assist lab users in log on and off procedures for various supported applications
  • Monitor and maintain supplies and equipment inventories for the computer labs and perform regular maintenance checks of labs equipment
  • Provide emergency support in Media Services
  • Enforce all lab and campus policies.
Reports to:

The STP Area Supervisor and ACM Self - Instructional Computer Lab Manager.

Evaluation:

Performance evaluation is done by the STP Specific Area Supervisor in conjunction with Area Staff.

Career Path:

After a period of service, the Self-Instructional Lab Consultant is eligible to move within other STP positions; these moves could include advanced skill level, supervisor, highly technical or managerial positions.
