General Information

Academic Computing & Media is the department responsible for assisting the campus community with achieving compliance with the Web Page Accessibility Policy.

Changes to the ATI Web Priority Evaluation

On January 9, 2008, the Chancellor’s Office (CO) issued a Status of the ATI Web Priority report. This report was a response to the First-Year Web Report that each CSU made back in early May 2007. The Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) report found that, according to their Web Accessibility experts, not one CSU campus was performing a comprehensive enough manual evaluation (a.k.a. visual evaluation) of the Section 508 Standards. The CO emphasized the need for more stringent manual evaluations of all Websites.

The CO’s status report has made it clear that our campus must do more to remove all barriers identified by Section 508. This has prompted the need for a point-by-point checklist, or what the CO is referring to as a Section 508 Manual Evaluation. The ATI committee, in cooperation with ACM, has devised an implementation plan that will bring the campus up to speed with these recent changes, as well as a manual checklist that will be used to perform more comprehensive evaluations of all sites. To this end, the ATI committee recommends the following:

  1. Postpone the May 2008 Campus Web Page Accessibility Report to November 14, 2008
  2. Begin offering campus-wide workshops on new manual evaluation checklist items
  3. Allow an extended period of time for each division to fix errors (larger divisions will be given a longer amount of time to make repairs)
  4. Provide preliminary reports, per division
  5. Provide an annual campus accessibility report every November

Workshops will be scheduled to support individual divisions but are open to the entire campus and everyone, including past participants are advised to attend. To sign up for a workshop please go to Professional Development's Schedule of Classes.
