Online Course Development Consultant
In keeping up with changes in technology, the Professional Development program is designed to support faculty and staff by means of training, labs, and other supported services. There are two types of training provided by the Professional Development program: Standard and Customized Training. With Standard Training, the Professional Development team offers a full calendar of classes each quarter on campus-supported software, the Internet, web-based course development, and other technological topics. Customized training can be developed to suit the needs of departments or other groups. The Professional Development Coordinator is available to discuss particular instructional needs of departments or other groups in order to develop and deliver training tailored to meet their needs. All professional development classes are available at no charge to faculty and staff at a wide variety of times and dates. Classes are offered in PL-015 unless otherwise noted in the schedule. Classes are organized into two types: Core Competency and Internet Classes. Core Competency Classes are designed to provide the skills needed to be confident using computers and standard software applications supported on campus. Internet Classes are designed to maximize utilization of the capabilities of the Internet, including Blackboard, for development and management of online courses.
- Be a very mature, organized, and detail-oriented person with good communication skills
- Have thorough knowledge of a broad variety of software applications, including but not limited to: MS Office Suite, Blackboard, Dream Weaver, and HTML.
- Have an understanding of the policies of STP, its purpose, and goals.
A positive attitude and ability to troubleshoot problems is extremely helpful.
- The Online Course Development Consultant will assist the Professional Development Coordinator in migration of materials from analog to digital and uploading these materials online into courses or websites.
- Retrieve files from faculty via e-mail or in person
- Provide help with Blackboard: edit and troubleshoot content as necessary
- Scan teachers' work
- Help create websites for distance learning courses
- Translate material into digital from any source
- Teach Professional Development courses on online subjects
- Schedules one-on-one appointments with faculty and staff for training
STP Area Supervisor and Professional Development Program Coordinator.
Performance evaluation is done by the STP Specific Area Supervisor in conjunction with Area Staff.
After a period of service, the Online Course Development Consultant is eligible to move within other STP positions; these moves could include supervisor, highly-technical, or managerial positions.
