Distance Learning Technician
$6.75 - $7.15 per hour
This service area supports and maintains Distance Learning classrooms and computer labs. These classrooms are fully equipped with two-way video conferencing equipment and are connected to the 4Cnet. In addition to instructional support, these facilities are available for teleconferencing, compressed video and satellite downlinks. The ACM staff also serves as a community resource for distance learning and teleconferencing questions. Distance learning provides support for Web-based instruction, in addition to instructional design support for faculty interested in integrating technology (i.e. Blackboard access) into their curriculum.
Candidates should have basic clerical and computer skills
- Have experience with video cameras
- Have good interpersonal skills
- Have some basic knowledge about audio/video equipment
- Have an understanding of the policies of STP, its purpose, and goals.
- A willingness to learn video conferencing technology as it is used to facilitate distance learning classes.
- Occasionally assisting Staff with distance learning classroom maintenance, configuration, and construction as necessary.
- Troubleshooting distance learning classrooms
- Training the teachers with regards to distance learning technology.
STP Area Supervisor, ACM Equipment Systems Specialist, and Media Services Coordinator/Television Engineer
Performance evaluation is done by the STP Area Supervisor in conjunction with Area Staff.
After a period of service, the Distance Learning Consultant is eligible to move within other STP positions; these moves could include supervisor, highly-technical, or managerial positions.
