ACM Service Area Overview:

Service Area Overview

Telecommunications and Network Services (TNS) is a section of the Information Resources and Technology (IRT) division of CSUSB. TNS plans, supports, manages, maintains, and repairs the campus telephone system and the campus data network.

 

Qualifications:
The TNS Student Telephone Operator should have a basic knowledge of computers and good customer service skills. He or she should also have the ability to memorize the names of key campus personnel and maintain a professional, courteous demeanor at all times.

The TNS Student Telephone Operator should be able to answer calls promptly with a clear, pleasant voice, use correct grammatical construction and choice of words, and handle the complaints of irate customers with maturity and composure. He or she should have the ability to work for extended periods of time in a confined environment with little or nor supervision doing repetitive tasks.

Must maintain a good work record with little tardiness or patterned absences.


Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is a list of responsibilities for the TNS Student Telephone Operator:
Operate a high volume attendant console.
Receive and transfer calls in a prompt, accurate manner.
Have the ability to interact and communicate with people of diverse cultures.
Handle emergency requests following established procedures.
Answer questions of a routine nature.
Provide information to callers using carious source materials.
Have a working knowledge of the campus organizational structure, services, and departmental functions.
Related duties as assigned.

Reports to: 

The STP Area Supervisor and Supervisor of Telephone Operators

Evaluation:
Performance evaluation is done by the STP Area Supervisor in conjunction with Area Staff.

Career Path:
After a period of service, the TNS Student Telephone Operator is eligible to move within other STP positions; these moves could include advanced skill level, supervisor, highly technical or managerial positions.
