ACM Service Area Overview:

Service Area Overview

Telecommunications and Network Services (TNS) is a section of the Information Resources and Technology (IRT) division of CSUSB. TNS plans, supports, manages, maintains, and repairs the campus telephone system and the campus data network.

The Operating Systems Assistant plans and manages a series of operating systems and optimizes services that access mail servers and related networks. This includes actions required to ensure the TNS systems provide a consistent telecommunication platform for students, staff, and instructors.

Qualifications:

The STP Assistant Network Administrator should have some experience in computer network operations, mail servers, and/or UNIX systems. He or she should also have an understanding of the policies of STP, its purpose and goals

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following is a list of the responsibilities of the Operating Systems Assistant:

  • Install configure, and tune operating systems software for optimal performance
  • Write and develop efficient software and code for operating systems
  • Develop system utility programs and procedures to enhance operations, applications, and general system usage
  • Diagnose and resolve operating systems and program failures.
  • Assist in the resolving production problems
  • The student will be working primarily on UNIX systems with mail, directory (LDAP), DNS, calendaring, and DHCP services.

 

Reports to:  STP Area Supervisor and TNS Operating Systems Analyst

 

Evaluation: Performance evaluation is done by the STP Area Supervisor in conjunction with Area Staff.

 

Career Path:

After a period of service, the TNS Operating Systems Assistant is eligible to move within other STP positions; these moves could include advanced skill level, supervisor, highly technical or managerial positions.
